What is Herbal Medicine?

Herbal Medicine is the oldest form of medicine and still plays a major role today in traditional medicine by over 60% of the worlds population.

Herbal Medicine is the use of plants to treat a wide range of acute and chronic conditions. many pharmaceutical medicines, including aspirin, which is based on salicin, found in the bark of the Willow tree, have been developed from plants.

Unlike orthodox uses of plant material Herbal medicine uses the whole plant in the preparation of medicines, rather than isolated compounds, resulting in a more gentle and balanced effect. As a herbalist I use flowers, berries, bark, leaves and roots of plants in a range of ways, depending on the plants used.

Herbal Medicine does not have standard formulas for patients or conditions. Each prescription is tailored to the individual, taking into account their unique situation and medical history. Doses of a selection of herbs are blended in safe, appropriate quantities to provide a unique medicine for each client, and aimed at treating the root cause of the dis-ease, not just the individual symptoms.

Herbal medicine is safe and suitable for all stages of life; for birth to old age.

What to expect during a consultation.

Herbal Medicine takes a holistic approach to healing and initial consultations may take up to 90 minutes. During this time I will take a detailed case history, including past medical history, current symptoms medication, diet and lifestyle enabling me to arrive at a personalised treatment plan. Should it be required I will make a unique herbal prescription and offer advice on how best to move forward on your journey to improved health.

The first follow up visit is usually arranged for 2 weeks later which enables me to assess your progress, make any changes that may be required and allows you time to ask any further questions that may have arisen during this time. Any following appointments will be spaced according to your individual needs, which may be every three or four weeks, lasting approximately 30-45 minutes.

All consultations are by appointment only at Osana Natural Health Clinic. I offer weekday or evening appointments and have some availability to accommodate Saturday appointments. Home visits may be available for those unable to attend the clinic for a small additional fee.

I completely understand that choosing someone to assist in your health journey can be a daunting task and is a very personal decision. If you wish to meet me for an initial, no obligation chat please contact me to arrange a time or you may telephone me. As I am unable to answer calls whilst I am with patients please leave a message or text me and I will contact you as soon as I can.
